Slavery became a contentious topic within Congress. In order to maintain the nation's balance of slave and free states, Congress passed this legislation and simultaneously admitted Maine as a non-slave state and Missouri as a slave state. The Missouri Compromise also suggested that slavery be outlawed in the remaining Louisiana Territory north of the 36 degrees 30' latitude line. WiLL GIVE BRAINLEST IF LET ME!!! What were the effects of the Holocaust on the gypsies?

Answers

Answer:

While most of the research on the Holocaust has appropriately focused on the suffering of the Jewish population of Axis-occupied Europe, the Gypsies also were targeted for extinction by the Nazis. The Gypsies as a people survived the campaigns directed against them in large measure because they were located in areas under the control of governments allied with Germany. These governments generally refused to participate in the extermination of the Gypsies (just as some did not participate in the destruction of the European Jews). The majority of the Gypsy population in Axis Europe was beyond the direct control of the Nazi extermination machinery and, as a consequence, survival rates were higher. In contrast the European Jews were concentrated in areas under direct German control, and therefore the proportion of fatalities was much higher. Geographic location thus was one major factor that explains the greater survival rate of the Gypsies compared to that of the Jews.

Letter to a Citizen of Kentucky, an excerptExecutive Mansion, Washington,April 4, 1864.A. G. Hodges, Esq., Frankfort, Ky.
My Dear Sir:
You ask me to put in writing the substance of what I verbally stated the other day, in your presence, to Governor Bramlette and Senator Dixon. It was about as follows: I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong nothing is wrong. I cannot remember when I did not so think and feel; and yet I have never understood that the Presidency conferred upon me an unrestricted right to act officially in this judgment and feeling. It was in the oath I took that I would to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I could not take the office without taking the oath. Nor was it in my view that I might take the oath to get power, and break the oath in using the power.
I understood, too, that in ordinary civil administration this oath even forbade me to practically indulge my primary abstract judgment on the moral question of slavery. I had publicly declared this many times and in many ways; and I aver that, to this day I have done no official act in mere deference to my abstract judgment and feeling on slavery. I did understand, however, that my oath to preserve the Constitution to the best of my ability imposed upon me the duty of preserving, by every indispensable means, that government, that nation, of which that Constitution was the organic law. Was it possible to lose the nation, and yet preserve the Constitution?

Answers

According to general law, life and limb must be safeguarded. However, sometimes a limb must be severed in order to save a life; life is never judiciously given in order to save a limb. I believed that by becoming essential to the preservation of the Constitution through the preservation of the country, otherwise unconstitutional policies might be made legal.

Right or incorrect, I avow this assumption that I made earlier. If I allowed the destruction of government, country, and Constitution totally to save slavery or any other minor issue, I could not feel that I had done everything in my power to protect the Constitution.

I prohibited General Fremont's early attempts at military emancipation because I did not view them as absolutely necessary at the time. I protested when General Cameron, who was then the secretary of war, suggested arming the blacks because I did not yet consider it to be a crucial necessity.

I prohibited it when General Hunter made an attempt at military emancipation years later because I didn't believe the time had arrived for it yet. I really and repeatedly pleaded with the Border States to support compensated emancipation in March, May, and July 1862 because I firmly believed that, absent that action, the unavoidable need for military emancipation and arming the Blacks would arise.

They declined the offer, and I was, in my opinion, driven to choose between giving up the Union and the Constitution or exerting firm control over the racial minority. I went with the latter. I chose it in the hopes that I would gain more than lose, albeit I wasn't fully sure of this.

Yours truly,

A. Lincoln

As a result, agencies are forced to compete to some extent. Redundancies may occur from this strategy, however, there are costs and advantages.

Although this strategy can lead to layoffs, it also has advantages and disadvantages. For instance:

The Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration's conflicting authority over food safety is a classic example.Another is the conflict over drug approvals between the FDA and the Drug Enforcement Agency. It is much more difficult when separate entities overlap, like when the Security and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulate futures contracts.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be TrueA Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation. How does the speaker's metaphor of a gold star in paragraph 3 support the purpose of the speech?
